Combined skin care and home remedies to keep it free from oiliness and dryness

Do you experience oily and dry skin at the same time? You may have combination skin type. It can be difficult to maintain because not all skin care products are suitable for this skin type. Some of them can dry out your skin, while others can make your face oilier. Therefore, finding the right skin care for combination skin is the most difficult. However, we’ve got you covered!

To learn about the causes and some effective remedies for combination skin, Health Shots contacted Dr. Nikhita Shere, skin care and Ayurveda expert at TAC – The Ayurveda Co.

Dr. Shere says: “Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science, states that each person’s Prakriti or body constitution is defined by the prevalence of specific doshas in their body. Acne in oily areas or dry, flaky skin in the areas around the T-zone can be the result of an imbalance of these doshas. Combination skin is common in people with Vata-Kapha Prakriti. The dominance of Kapha dosha causes excessive sebum production, while the impact of Vata keeps specific regions of the skin dry.

Due to its dual nature, combination skin requires special attention. Finding a skincare routine that works for combination skin can be a challenge. Ayurveda advises using herbal skincare to balance your doshas and restore a holistic skin composition.

Here are some of the most effective and natural ways to hydrate, control excessive sebum production, and rejuvenate combination skin:

1. Green tea, honey and aloe vera mask

Green tea has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities, making it an excellent ingredient for combination skin. “Not only does it prevent acne, but it also keeps the skin nice and silky. Aloe vera gel will give your face a natural glow while nourishing your skin. At the same time, honey helps remove dirt and also acts as a moisturizer, keeping skin nourished but not greasy,” says Dr. Shere.

How to do it: Combine two teaspoons of green tea leaves, one tablespoon of aloe vera gel, and one tablespoon of honey in a small bowl. Then apply the paste all over your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Afterwards, wash your face with normal water.

2. Multani Mitten Pack

Multani mitti is a fantastic ingredient for those with combination skin due to its oil-absorbing qualities. It also removes acne and cleanses the pores on your face. It has a cooling effect on the face and increases blood circulation, which helps improve skin tone.

How to do it: To make a thick paste, combine two teaspoons of Multani mitti, one tablespoon of lemon juice, and one tablespoon of rosewater in a bowl. Leave it on for 20 minutes after applying it all over your face and then rinse it off. Multani mitti will harden as it dries, so it’s best not to talk while the mask is on your face.

3. Cucumber juice and honey

Cucumber juice mixed with honey is perfect for combination skin. Honey effectively closes the pores while providing optimal hydration to the face. Cucumber, on the other hand, is an excellent cure for dry or flaky skin due to its nourishing and anti-inflammatory characteristics.

How to do it: With the help of a juicer, finely blend a cucumber. In a plate, strain the cucumber juice and add two teaspoons of honey. For a sticky juice-like consistency, combine both ingredients in a blender. Using a cotton ball, apply the mixture to your skin. Let it dry completely before removing it with water.

4. Dried and curdled orange peel

Dr. Shere suggests using orange on combination skin as it acts as a natural source of vitamin C for the skin. Whereas curd is used for this cure to help tighten the skin, remove dead skin cells and deeply hydrate it.”

Crush the orange peel once dry. To form a thick paste, add a little curd. Apply and rinse with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.

5. Banana and papaya puree and lemon juice

If your skin becomes excessively dry in certain areas, use a rich moisturizing ingredient like banana or papaya to restore suppleness. Lemon juice will not only brighten your tan, but it will also prevent oiliness.

In a bowl, mash a few slices of fruit (papaya/banana). Then mash half a lemon and combine the two ingredients. Apply the product on the skin and wait for it to dry. After some time, rinse with normal water.

So ladies, including these natural remedies in your weekly skincare routine can help you achieve healthy, vibrant skin and address the issues associated with your combination skin.
