Basically, dry eye disease is a condition where the eyes have less lubrication. This happens due to the alteration of the tear film that covers the eyes.   • Don’t go out if it’s hot and windy. If you have to go, wear sunglasses.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses.
  • Over-the-counter artificial tears are also available and are most commonly used, but get your doctor’s approval before that.
  • Try to do eye exercises.
  • Include foods rich in vitamin A in your diet because it is great for your eyes. Eat plenty of mangoes, papaya, peaches, spinach, apricots, bell peppers, etc.

“Once the condition becomes chronic, you will need to visit your doctor for evaluation. The evaluation consists of an exam and some dry eye tests such as meibography. This helps diagnose the cause and give a specific treatment which could be medication and drops or maybe a procedure like IPL or Lipiflow,” suggests Dr. Sethi.
